A paradise in an urban tangle of overhead wires, grey buildings and
sullen commuters, the gardens of Tokyo are a tangible, organic
connection with Japan's rich and fabled past.
A selection of prints from Paradise: The Gardens of Tokyo
has been acquired for the permanent collection of the
National Gallery of Canada (Ottawa).
Tim Porter was born in Washington, D.C. After studying literature at
the University of Virginia, he took up photography in Montréal in
the late 1960s. Tim now lives in Tokyo, where he is also a
filmmaker and aspiring Japanese gardener.
